AONB: North Devon
Coastal Creatures
54 beach cleans across 18 beaches have helped address marine and beach litter in the intertidal zone and on sand dunes, that presents a danger to marine species, seabirds and people.
The North Devon AONB team have targeted activity at sandy and rocky beaches backed by sand dunes, rocky outcrops or pebble ridge supporting a diversity of seabirds, waders, marine species and common wildlife. 4 ‘extreme’ beach cleans have involved volunteers removing litter from less accessible parts of the coast through coasteering, kayaking and abseiling.
The public contributed 2,672 people days to the project and 4 community beach cleaning groups have continued beyond the project
