Denge Wood
The Duke of Burgundy Fritillary was close to extinction in Kent, found only in low numbers in one site, Denge Wood. A partnership led by Butterfly Conversation took forward a remarkable programme of work which included:
- Securing 8 breeding colonies Duke of Burgundy Fritillary
- 15,000 records (totalling 45,000 individual butterflies and moths) collected by 130 people
- 78 events held and attended by over 2250 people
- Volunteers contributed over 370 days-worth of assistance
- Over 145 visits to 55 landowners undertaken for site advice
- Coppicing, ride and glade works the project area with 33 woodland owners woodland management on 52 woodlands in the project area
