Working with Bamburgh Castle, who have provided funding via carrier bag sales, we have provided six new barn owl boxes on farms in the AONB. Volunteers continue to monitor these and existing boxes contributing to a wider barn owl study area.
The AONB Partnership have led locally on the EU Life+ funded Little Tern Recovery Project supporting the activity of Natural England and National Trust to increase the number of breeding pairs and productivity of little terns on the Northumberland Coast. This has been achieved through increased wardening by paid staff and volunteers, awareness raising and predator management.
The Partnership have also worked with farmers to put coastal arable fields into management for shorebirds through Countryside Stewardship Schemes.
