Corridors have been created to link the and increase the size of priority habitats, specifically lowland heath, sessile oak woods and acidic grasslands. The Quantock Hills is fortunate to have 1,700Ha of lowland / upland heath, 600Ha of sessile oak woods and 250Ha of species rich acidic grassland.
Forest Enterprises removed conifers plantation and the NT amended a farm business tenancy to enable the project to proceed and Section 106 funding from Hinkley Point C contributed.
Analysis of the habitats identified that while there was a sizable area it was constrained to two areas which were separated by significant tracts of improved agricultural land and plantation woodland. The project paid capital costs for restoration and creation works on land to create corridors of priority habitat linking the current areas.
