Events happen in AONBs throughout the year – see their individual webpages to find out what is happening near you. But once a year the AONB Family gathers together in celebration of the UK’s outstanding landscapes. We call it "Outstanding Week" and it is just that.
Outstanding Week is the AONB Family’s week (and a bit) long programme of events to help people reconnect with nature by enjoying and being inspired by the UK’s Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONBs). This year it takes place from Saturday 21st – Sunday 29th September 2019.
AONBs are some of the UK’s most beautiful, treasured and outstanding landscapes. They are vibrant landscapes where people live and work, and consequently offer a wealth of opportunities for everyone to enjoy them.
Outstanding Week is an opportunity for you to get out and connect with nature, by enjoying local food and drink festivals, A Big Night Out on the Beach, Dark Sky Discovery Nights, walking festivals, heritage walks, bat walks and talks, whittling in the woods, geology talks, birding walks, dementia-friendly walks,Pilgrims’ Festivals, Conservation Holidays, Sporting Challenges, Walking for Health walks, a plethora of coastal and marine days, inspiration through art and music and many, many other activities.
If you can’t get to one of our AONBs next week, take the opportunity to find out about the AONB Family’s contribution to the aspirations of Defra’s 25 Year Environment Plan including Farming for the Nation – AONBs as test beds for a new Environmental Land Management Scheme (FINAL) and Welsh Government’s Valued and Resilient
Otherwise join us out in the country to discover why September is such an Outstanding month!
